Many have asked how the Carolinas Mission District can help in the recovery efforts for the flooded areas near Lumberton, NC. Pastor Dieter Punt, the NC coordinator for the NALC Disaster Relief team, has spoken to Mary Bates, the chief field assistant. She is on the road today with provisions for Lumberton from Ohio, and has requested that CMD congregations collect and prepare supplies and kits for distribution. Follow the link below for a bulletin insert for your congregation. This insert has a list of needed supplies.
Pastor Punt’s congregation of Holy Trinity (255 Morgan St., Troutman, NC, 28166; 704-528-5334) has graciously agreed to serve as a collection point. They will receive and store the above items until Wed., Oct. 26, at which point we will transport them to a distribution point near the affected areas.
• Mary has asked if we can provide this transportation. If any of you or your parishioners have access to a truck, please let Pastor Punt know. Otherwise, the CMD can look into providing transportation costs.
• Congregations can either arrange to bring their own contributions to Holy Trinity, or our sub-districts (NC 321 Corridor; NC Rowan County; SC Midlands; SC Lowcountry) can coordinate transportation for their congregations.
Pastor Punt will also be working with Mary and David McGettigan, the NALC Disaster Response Director, to arrange for trips for volunteers to help on-site with the recovery.
Please continue to pray for all who are suffering the loss of loved ones, home, and property, for all those working to help in the hurricane’s aftermath.
