1 Kings 12:1-20

The adage goes, “Youth is wasted on the wrong People.” As they say with age comes wisdom, or it should. Unfortunately for Rehoboam he failed to listen to the sage advice of his wiser and older councilors. Instead he turned his ear to those who had grown up with him. Neither Rehoboam nor his young advisors had the wisdom that real life experience can impart. This youthful ignorance was the catalyst for the Kingdom dividing and ultimately hurting the people King Rehoboam was to safeguard. Rehoboam started out on the right track as he did seek advice. However, in the end he accepted the wrong advice and it cost him greatly.

There are many places one can seek advice, some good some not and no end to those willing to give us their proverbial two cents. Therefore, we need to be wise only seeking good council. For bad council can deceive us and lead to our own demise as well as others. Pray for God’s council and scour the scriptures for wisdom as well as Christian elders who have proven their wisdom over time, for this is wise council.

Prayer: Father, lead us in your wisdom and guide us. Amen.
