Acts 26:24-27:8, Mark 13:28-37
I saw a poster that read “Be Alert, America needs more Lerts.” In a “tongue and cheek” sort of way, the Church needs more Lerts too.
Jesus tells us in Mark 13:33 to be alert to what is going on around us. We need to be aware of those around us who do not know Jesus as their Savior and share the gospel with them before it is too late. Jesus told his disciples that one day he will come again in power and glory, and no one but God the Father knows when that will be. In the meantime we are to be busy doing the work of the Great Commission – making disciples.
The Apostle Paul was alert such that even while in prison he knew Governor Festus and King Agrippa were not saved. In making his defense, Paul shared the gospel with them in hope they would become believers. That is how we are to be as well – alert to the spiritual condition of those around us so we might share Christ with those who do not know him.
One day Christ is going to return; when is not our concern. Who will be alert and ready with us is.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help us to be alert to the spiritual needs of those around us that we share your love with them. Amen.
