John 17_22

John 17:20-26

Benjamin Franklin is credited with saying: “We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.” Franklin knew the seriousness of their endeavor and of their sacred pledge to one another as they began the course of America. Just like the Founding Fathers we as Christians need to understand the expediency of sticking together as one. It is so important that Christ prayed for the oneness of all Christians past and present and future.

Being one with each other in Christ is vital for our gospel spreading mission. The enemy knows that the way to inhibit Christians and the church from moving forward in performing its mission is to divide and conquer. Satan will do all he can to bring about upheaval and chaos in the lives of God’s people both individually and corporately. Therefore, we as the people of God must be vigilant of all the means of separation that come our way, never growing tired or weary of coming together as one in fellowship, worship and prayer to the one who is the glue of our lives.

Prayer: Father, help us to remain one in you and in each other each day. Amen.

Today’s devotion was written by Carlin Ours, Pastor of Organ Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC.
