Job 19:21-27; Romans 8:1-11
Today is Holy Saturday. On this day we remember that Jesus’ body lay dead in the tomb. The Son of God is dead. Indeed, but the third day is coming; the day Jesus promised he would rise from the dead. What a blessing for us to be on this side of the resurrection and know Jesus is alive.
Think about Job, writing centuries before Jesus walked this earth. The Holy Spirit inspired him to proclaim; “For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God.” Job 19:25-26
Job knew one day his Redeemer would “stand upon the earth.” And so Jesus did; he stood, he hung, he died, was buried and rose so that we might have life. Paul in Romans 8:11 tells us: “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” God who raised Jesus from the dead raises all who are dead in sin to new life through faith in Jesus.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me faith in Jesus and raising me to new life. Grant that I might share this faith with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
