Phil 4_13

Philippians 4:1-13

“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” This must be one of the most quoted verses in scripture when it comes to dealing with difficult situations. It has become like a survivalist motto for Christians; a survival kit of sort. Jesus our hope, Jesus our trust, Jesus the one that has committed to us. So as the world throws us twists and turns, and a hiccup here and there, we find strength in Jesus that helps us get through it all.

But you know what I like even more is verse eleven “I can be content in any situation.” I struggle with being content and so often we isolate verse thirteen from verse eleven and apply it to encourage us to do the impossible, which I am all for. However, we need to remember that Christ is also here to help in our day to day situations. I heard a preacher once say “You’re either in a storm, just got out of one, or about to enter one.” That can sound daunting, but we can breathe easy and rest well. Jesus gives us strength; He is with us before, after, and during the bad parts in our lives.

Prayer: Jesus I thank you for making me content so I can face easy day anew in and through you. Amen.

Today’s devotion was written by Dieter Punt, Pastor at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman, NC.

What is amazing to me is that Paul writes so many of his letters in chains while in prison, and he is content. We also need to understand these prisons are not like the resorts we have today. The smell alone would gag you. To be without food, no problem, God will provide my needs.
