John 6_68

John 6:60-71

Eating and drinking, we do it often without thinking. Yet, it is essential to get nutrients into your body. Without food there is no life. So many times, though, we take into our bodies a lot of junk food that is not good for us. When a person eats too much of the wrong food, he or she can eventually create all kinds of health problems including: high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, sleep apnea, and even cancer. The right stuff going in can make a huge difference in your health life!

In today’s reading, Jesus is describing spiritual nourishment to his disciples. Earlier in this passage Jesus says: “For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.” Many of those who were following him took offense and said: “This is a hard saying…”

Spiritual nourishment grows your faith life. We must totally take into our lives the nourishment that Jesus gives through the Holy Spirit. Not literal flesh and blood, but literal truth and life. The truth of Christ trumps all the truth of this sinful world. Christ’s life brings us to life through the gateway called death. His nourishment is eternal.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, strengthen my faith-life through your Holy Spirit; give me your truth and life that I can grow into your likeness. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

Today’s devotion was written by Randy Conley, Pastor of Hope Lutheran Church in Hubbard Lake, MI.
