Several years ago I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The day I was taken to the hospital I consumed 4 pitchers of ice water at lunch and could have drunk more. No matter how much water I consumed the thirst and dryness in my mouth could not be satisfied. After going through this ordeal, the words of Jesus took on greater meaning to me.
Jesus calls out to those that desire him to “come to me and drink.” Spiritually speaking, we live in a parched and dry world. It is so easy to become totally dried out by the daily chaos and down right lack of any semblance of God in our secular minded society. Thus, we need to satisfy our dehydrated spirits with the “Living water.”
Daily devotions, Bible reading, prayer and attending worship are paramount. It is by doing these things, with Christ at the center, that we will re-hydrate our hearts so they “flow rivers of living water,” to a hurting and dying world in need of hydration.
Prayer: Precious Lord Jesus, fill us with your living water and refresh our souls. Amen.
