John 8_12

John 8:12-19

The family of Pastor Leon Pomeroy, of the North Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church, gives as their Christmas gift to their community each year a unique offering. The family takes on the project of connecting all the churches in town with luminaries. One year, 600 luminaries connected the churches on Christmas Eve. You could follow the luminary path of all the lights shining in the darkness. Is this a great idea, or what?

Jesus made many wonderful “I am” statements. In the eighth chapter of John, he refers to himself as “the Light of the world.” John 8:12 His Light is what connects all who seek him. How can we know where to find God’s light? The answer lies in Psalm 119:105; “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Holy Scripture consistently shines light revealing the truth of Christ. The truth of Christ is the light no darkness can overcome.

Prayer: Lord, help us to always walk in your light, and keep us steadfast in your Word. Amen.

Today’s devotion was written by Thomas W. Corbell, Pastor of  Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church in Statesville, NC.
