john 2-1

John 2:1-11, Revelation 2:1-7, Isaiah 52:3-6

We have heard people described as a party animal, meaning they really know how to have a good time. In some ways, Jesus could be called a party animal. In response to his mother, Jesus provided the wine for the entire wedding party at Cana. At the very least, Jesus made 120 gallons of wine in those six jars. Everyone was sure to have a great time, because the best wine had been saved for last.

We seem to have the idea that Jesus is always serious. Yet, in this scene with his mother Mary, even though Jesus sounds like any son who is prodded by his mom to do something that he would rather not do, he was not going to spoil the party. Jesus was a real person. Jesus enjoyed having a good time. Jesus laughed, loved, sang, and enjoyed good food. Jesus reminds us through his wedding miracle, how our heavenly Father wants us to enjoy the gifts he gives. As we pray “Give us this day our daily bread.” that all God’s people have the things we need for life and for enjoyment.

Prayer: Father, help us to enjoy and share the gifts of your kingdom, especially with those in need. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
