So, did you make any New Year’s Resolutions? During the first two weeks of the New Year, the YMCA I attend is usually crowded with people whose resolution is to get in shape. Those of us who are regulars say we cannot wait for their resolution to wear off so the YMCA will not be so crowded. And sure enough, by week three the crowds are gone.
If you made a New Year’s Resolution, did it include things like reading the Bible more, spending more time with God in prayer, attending worship more often, getting more involved in your church? Even these resolutions are easy to break and often fall by the wayside.
Paul gives good advice in Colossians 2:6-7: “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” Because of our faith in Jesus we see the need to live for him. As we grow spiritually we have a firm foundation in him and the practicing of our faith is proven. Consequently the only resolution we need is to continue walking in Jesus. Thanks be to God.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, strengthen us in our faith in you that we might continue to live our lives for you in this New Year. Amen.
