luke1-16

Luke 1:5-25

When God told Zachariah and Elizabeth of the impending birth, they were stunned. She who was barren will give birth. The Lord worked a miracle when John the Baptist was conceived. He worked another miracle when a teenage virgin named Mary also conceived in her womb.

To say that the Lord acts “out of the box” is an understatement beyond comprehension.

In two days, we will celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Those who have a hard time believing will sometimes come to church. I call them “wish I could be believers.” Maybe the Lord is calling you to welcome a special person who does not know the Lord to come and meet him at the manger.

Just maybe, these hymn words will take on a very personal meaning.

Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
“Glory to the newborn King!”

Prayer: May it be so Lord! Amen.

Today’s devotion was written by Thomas W. Corbell, Pastor of  Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church in Statesville, NC.
