Acts 10:17-33

You will remember that today’s reading comes after Peter’s vision of unclean food descending from heaven accompanied by the command, “Rise and eat!” We find Peter trying to figure out what to make of this vision. We see poor Peter wondering—even puzzled—by this vision and call. We see how he struggles and mills it over and over in his head.

Today, we might think the message was obvious, and wonder why he struggled so with its meaning. What God was asking Peter to do was so far out of the box or his comfort zone, that it never even entered Peter’s mind.

So, with Peter still pondering, God acts. He brings the answer right to Peter’s door in the form of three men and an invitation. Suddenly, Peter understands that God has shown him that he should not call any person common or unclean.

Might I be so daring and ask you if you are clear about God’s vision for you? I am not talking about some general theological, philosophical, no change to your life answer. Do you know what God wants you to be doing right now? Are you doing it?

Prayer: Lord open me to live my life for your vision in your Kingdom. Amen.

Today’s devotion was written by Dieter Punt,

  1. Danny Ward says:

We believe that we are doing just that. While in the Navy, I hated the Philippines and had no desire to ever go back. Well, 26 years later we took a short term missions trip to the Philippines. Five years later we became a mission, and now we have 5 Americans & 4 Filipinos on our staff. We were faithful to God, now he is blessing us.
