Matthew 10:5-15

Could you do it? Could you strike out on a missionary journey going from town to town proclaiming the gospel with nothing but the clothes on your back? That is how Jesus sent his disciples on their first trip. He gave them specific instructions on where to go, what to take and not take, and even what to do if they were received by folks or rejected. Their mission was to say to the people in the places where they go, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons.” And they were to do all this without pay.

Today, Jesus still sends out disciples. He commands us to go and make disciples of all nations. With today’s technology we can do that from wherever we are. This devotion will reach people all over the United States and in many countries across the globe. With Facebook, Twitter, Smartphones, computers, and tablets we can reach people in places many of us cannot physically travel. If when we are on social media we will share our faith, who knows who we might reach for Jesus. We have the tools; we need the courage to do it.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, give me the courage to tell the world about you and the difference you have made in my life. Amen.

Today’s devotion was written by Carl Haynes,
Dean of the Carolinas Mission District, and the
Pastor of Christiana Lutheran Church in Salisbury, NC.
