Ezekiel 33:21-33; 1 John 2:1-11; Matthew 9:35-10:4

Many hear the word of the Lord but they will not do it; their lot is desolation. They say they know the Lord but they are liars because they do not keep his commandments. One knows that she has come to know the Lord if she keeps his commandments, the chief of which is to turn to him—and keep turning to him. This is abiding in the light.

One of the commandments that light-abiders keep is that new commandment of Jesus to love others. It is a clear indicator of those who live in the light. You cannot hate in the light. Claiming otherwise is mere mouthing of words. Those in the church who hold grudges or bear ill-will toward others are those who have heard the word of the Lord but will not do it; they dwell in the waste places of religion. May Jesus heal their affliction.

There is a good word for you if you are one of these desolate people. Though you sin, Christ died for the sin of the world—not only for the sin of the hater but also for the sin of those she hates.

Turn to the light, and love.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me abide in the light of your love today. Amen.
