Exodus 15:22-16:10; 1 Peter 2:1-10; John 15:1-11
“What have you done for us lately?” So the Israelites ask God as they wander through the wilderness from one campsite to another. First there is no sweet water. Then there is no food. So the faithful, provider God makes the water drinkable, gives manna every morning, and quail every evening. He does this to provide for his people and as a test, he says, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law or not.”
I call it God’s umbrella principle. When we walk with God we stay dry and protected, fed and nourished. When we walk away from him we give up that protection and provision. He has rescued us from oppression and sin, and so has called us together to be a holy nation, a royal priesthood for himself. We are given the privilege and responsibility of walking with the loving creator and serving him as intercessors for the people of the world.
Each and every day he protects and provides, so we are enriched and sustained by the Lord of Life by our side.
Prayer: Gracious Father, give us grace to walk with you day by day, trusting your divine provision and care. Amen.
