1 John 5:1-12
“Boy, she sure has a lot of life in her,” I’ve heard people say of a person. Having a lively personality and winsome ways seems to count for a lot in how we evaluate someone these days. In the letter from John, he writes about how obedience to Christ brings a new kind of life–genuine, abundant life! It is an overcoming lifestyle. A life lived in God’s truth eliminates most of the problems that plague our existence in this world. Jesus spoke the truth because that is how the Father’s word was given to Him through the Spirit. It is this same Holy Spirit with which we have been imbued. The baptized are believers, and believers are on a baptismal mission to speak God’s truth into the world. We bear witness by the testimony of our faith—our faith in God’s truth—is a truth that trumps every other truth the world may try to offer. Finally, we really can condense this entire concept of John’s as he did in verse twelve of chapter five: “Whoever has the Son has life…” We all need to have a lot of this life in us!
Prayer: Father God, imbue in me, through your Holy Spirit, the life of your Son. Amen.
