In Hebrews 11, the author writes about the faith of our earliest biblical ancestors. He states, “All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance.” My grandmother often talked to me about her faithful expectations—off in the distance. She told me that she would be reunited with her husband and her youngest son in heaven. Her faith was a big influence in my life.
Because of her faithful influence, I was baptized. Because of her faithful influence, I am an ordained minister in the church of Christ and am now extending my faith to others through this writing. We daily express our faith in various people and things in this life. We put our faith in certain individuals for sound advice or personal care. We place our faith in varieties of health care providers and in their products. Where do you direct your faith for your spiritual hopes and aspirations? A dear faithful friend of mine once said, “If you can find a better deal than Jesus Christ offers—go for it!” Take the time, as many of your faithful acquaintances have, to get to know the faithfulness of Jesus Christ and the abundance of hope he extends to you.
Prayer: We thank you, gracious Lord of all, for the faithful Christians who lift up your Son as the source of all our hope for today, tomorrow and always. Amen.
