Christ United and Union – Partners in Mission

Taking the stage were singers, dancers and musicians as the congregation of Union Lutheran Church in Salisbury held a talent show to benefit its mission partner Christ United Lutheran Church in Granite Falls, NC. Christ United is a mission congregation of the NALC and recently celebrated their first anniversary.

As their mission partner, Union supports Christ United in various ways. Certainly, making financial contributions is one method of support, but the relationship between the two congregations is growing beyond simply sharing funds. On July 1st, the two congregations swapped pastors for a day. Mission developer for Christ United Pastor Ron Orovitz visited Union while Pastor David Nuottila made the trip to Christ United. Each shared the gospel of Christ and a message of Christian love and support for one another.  Soon, the Senior Choir at Union plans to visit Christ United.

The talent show on Friday, August 10 featured several acts from Union members of all ages. There was also a special treat as CULC members A.J. Schwankert and Greg Perry performed two songs from their repertoire. Union members voted for their favorite act by purchasing “Union Fun Bucks.” The act garnering the most “Fun Bucks” was declared the winner and has bragging rights for one year.  The quality of talent was wonderful and the talent show raised a significant contribution toward the ministry at CULC.  In the end A.J. and Greg walked away with the honors and bragging rights for one year.

Following the talent show, everyone shared a tasty treat of homemade ice cream provided by Kevin and Ellen Huffman of Huffman’s Peach Orchard in Salisbury. All in all, the talent show and ice cream social served as a reminder of the growing relationship between the families of Christ United and Union, and the loving support for one another in our shared mission of proclaiming the gospel of Christ Jesus.
